Monstera Thai Constellation
Monstera deliciosa 'Thai Constellation'
One of the most recognizable and popular variegated aroids in the collector world, the Thai Constellation takes the iconic split-leaf silhouette of Monstera deliciosa and maps it with a creamy, star-scattered variegation that is as visually distinctive as it is botanically unusual. Developed through tissue culture in Thailand, the variegation is stable and genetic — meaning every leaf reliably carries the characteristic pattern of creamy white to soft yellow speckles, streaks, and sectors scattered across the deep green surface like a galaxy of stars, hence the name. Unlike the unstable chimeric variegation of the Albo Variegata, which can revert or produce predominantly white or predominantly green leaves unpredictably, the Thai Constellation's pattern is consistent across new growth, making it a more reliable and forgiving variegated Monstera for collectors who want drama without constant uncertainty. A vigorous grower that produces increasingly large, deeply fenestrated mature leaves with both the characteristic splits and holes of a mature deliciosa and the warm, luminous constellation patterning that has made this cultivar a global favorite.
This cultivar produces progressively larger, more fenestrated, and more dramatically patterned leaves as it climbs a firm vertical support — a tall, robust moss pole is strongly recommended for encouraging mature leaf expression. Bright indirect light maintains the richest contrast between the creamy variegated sectors and the deep green ground; insufficient light slows growth considerably and mutes the variegation's luminosity. Water when the top 1-2" of medium is dry, ensuring excellent drainage and never allowing the roots to sit in standing water; provide a chunky aroid mix of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark. Humidity of 60-70% supports healthy, clean leaf unfurling and reduces browning on the cream sectors, which contain less chlorophyll than the green tissue. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.
